If you are just itching to go golfing in Roatan but don't want to spend time playing 18 holes.
Or you are just getting off the cruise ship for the day on the island but don't want to hit the beach right away, then my recommendation is to head to the 9-hole par 3 Black Iguana Golf Club.
Black iguanas can only be found in Roatan.
Unfortunately, they are also on the endangered species list.
So, the owners named the golf course Black Iguana in hopes to raise awareness and conservation efforts throughout Roatan.
In fact, black iguanas sleep on the greens and will climb a tree to let you hit the ball so they can resume their nap.
Bring your vacation partners even if they are not golfers; it will be fun!
You can also just drop them off at the pristine West Bay beach area.
Then, in just five minutes, you can be on the golf course as you can be brought to the course from anywhere in the West Bay area for free by transport.
The course was designed by Perry Dye, one of the world's prominent architects.
This is a fun course for golfers of all levels.
Even if you take your game more seriously, you still can put your short game skills to the test in about 90 minutes on these challenging 9 holes Just think: you will still be back at the beach in time for lunch!
The day I played there, in early January 2020, the course had just fully opened.
The greens were a bit slow but the ball rolled true, I think that it should be expected as everything is so new.
When golfing in Roatan at Black Iguana, you will encounter significant elevation changes and challenges.
For example, hole #9, you want to stay to the left as there is a ridge that is deadly for your ball!
And don't be surprised if you encounter the resident 2 goats wandering around the course.
With villas surrounding the course, Black Iguana is within the gates of the West Bay Villas, a spectacular world class property.
There is a clubhouse where you can order food and drinks
The course is open to the public with carts, clubs, balls all included in the green fee price.
So, if you want fun when golfing in Roatan without spending a day on the course, you will not be disappointed by teeing it up at the Black Iguana Golf Club.
